Life in the hamlet of Les Granges in Gaspard times

The GASPARD family, which serves as the historical starting point for this exhibition, consisted of:

Maria GASPARD, née PAQUET (August 18, 1924–May 29, 2001),

Jean-Marie GASPARD (October 17, 1921–January 24, 1982), and

Alain GASPARD (1950–2026), who passed away recently and to whom Marie-Noëlle PEGUY-PHEULPIN paid a moving tribute that you can read next to the guestbook.

They were the last family whose members were born in the Upper Vénéon Valley to live in Les Granges, alongside Claude TURC (June 28, 1920–2010), their unmarried neighbor.

The hamlet of Les Granges, the spatial focal point of this exhibition, is located directly above the village of Saint-Christophe La Ville. You pass through it when you set out from the center of La Ville to go to the Alpe du Pin mountain hut; it is the last cluster of houses before reaching the Granges bridge.–—

The GASPARD family, like the people of the valley for many years, lived differently from most of us today. The photos on display will give you a sense of their daily routines and their relationship with the mountains.

This exhibition, kindly hosted by the Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans community library, is brought to you by the Traversées association, which organizes events and discussions centered on books to promote mountain culture.
