Salt rise

To mark the UN's International Year of Pastoralism, and in partnership with the Fédération des Alpages de l'Isère, the main trail organizations in the département are offering salt climbs from June 14 to July 4. These actions mobilize runners and volunteers to transport more than 400 kg of salt and croquettes to supply shepherds and shepherdesses in four mountain ranges: Oisans, Taillefer, Vercors and Belledonne.

Course of the day:

Welcome, free breakfast, briefing for the day, distribution of packs between 5 and 10 kg depending on what has been indicated at registration -> bring a large pack of around 40-50l for carrying.
Shuttle buses from Grenoble and Chambéry are available free of charge when you register.
- Hike at your own pace up to the Alpe du Pin refuge.
- Arrival at the shepherd's hut:
* Welcome by the shepherd to put away the salt bags.
* Meeting with the Fédération des Alpages de l'Isère and shepherds to discuss their profession and the best practices to adopt in the mountains when dealing with flocks.
- Picnic together, time for discussion and questions with the shepherds.
- Return to parking lot
